About me

Hello! My name is John. I'm looking to further develop my skills as a web developer. I strive to build immersive web applications through carefully crafted code and user-centric design.

My Experience

I come from a background of customer service. From cashier, to client relations, customer care, and management, I have done it all. This not only helps me in speaking with clients, but it also gives me a leg up on my competition. I am easily able to find out exactly what my clients needs are, and how I can help them achieve their goals. I have been in the web industry since 2012, and haven’t looked back since. Currently I am working as a Senior UX designer, front end developer and project lead at a Web Design Agency, where some of my duties include (but are not limited to): UX/UI Design, responsive web design / development, custom solutions, client consultation, wire framing, mockup design, project management, brand creation and JavaScript library creation. I invite you to head over to my LinkedIn profile for a full list of projects, work experience, and more. You can also contact me and I'd be more than happy to discuss my thoughts, experience, and opinions on all things web.

My Education

Google. Google is a wonderful teacher. However, it takes a certain mindset to be able to learn from Google, and to not just copy and paste code. For me, this mindset was found at college. In 2014 I graduated from Durham College’s Contemporary Web Design program, at the top of my class. During my time there I tutored my peers, taught a weekly seminar, and constantly pushed the limits of what was being taught in the classroom.Wanting to move faster than my courses could take me, I started a journey of self teaching. Sure, college helped me learn the basics and gave me the head start that I needed, but self teaching is why I am at the level I am at today. It’s a VERY important skill to learn early on, as the web industry is constantly changing and improving. That being said, self teaching isn’t everything, and I often pick up a course or two at Treehouse or Code Academy to enhance my skills. Feel free to take a look at my LinkedIn page for more information on my education and skill set. You can also contact me and I’d be more than happy to discuss my education and opinions on self teaching.
